What’s that? This is a CAN bus adapter and what is about it, we are now showing on this video. So I’ll tell you why you need a CAN bus adapter. It costs a few euros, but only then will your car radio work properly. More after the intro. Starting with a normal ISO adapter, let’s leave this CAN bus adapter. We have a vehicle adapter which goes on the usual ISOs, where I can infect my new car radio. That I can buy, but then my radio will usually not work anymore. For all vehicles from the year of construction 1995. I put it together and the radio did not work. Why? Because we are missing some signals on these connections as long as I do not install a CAN bus adapter. How it works and what is behind , I’ll show you on the blackboard. In the past, at least three cables exist in the radio shaft, which were used for the power supply and once mass, also we had permanent plus once. The two cables are usually available with each new car radio bay as well. Mass and permanent plus are always available. Ignition plus with the signal which inform my car radio : “now I have turned the ignition key”, then the ignition goes on. We used to have that and now it is no longer analog on the car radio. The whole thing is called CAN-bus cable. There are several more information on it. If I measure with a multimeter, then I measure 12 volts. That’s great, so my car radio as far as the ignition is concerned, I also need 12 volts. So twice 12 volts, once permanent plus, so that the entire channels are stored and all the settings you have made on the car radio and the ignition ensures to turn on the car radio as soon as I sit in the car and turn the ignition and just turn back. Then we also have a comfort ignition, that means I can actually turn off the ignition only when you remove the key or go to zero position. Then the car radio goes off and the ignition is gone. That’s it about the old cars, so this ignition plus actually went directly to the ignition and here quite manually also here 12 volts. This is not the case today. Now I tell you what the CAN bus in the vehicle. We have one Control unit somewhere in the vehicle, there will be all information Whether it’s ignition now, Turn signal on go there. Reverse gear as we paint a gear lever. Reverse gear, Information in the control unit. I turn on the front light, Information into the control unit purely, but that means that for the first time everything ends up in the control unit. This Controller summarizes these signals and puts all of them on a cable. It goes through the car, to various devices including the car radio. That’s called CAN. This cable now carries many other signals without I can measure 12 volts right here, because that not exist. That’s a different signal deposited. Now I need a device around even these 12 volts which are practically here from my ignition So the signal for ignition can be selected out of this signal. Now it’s time for our CAN bus, which takes once this signal and got 12 volts again and give it back to me as ignition and so on this is my ignition which I just did not have anymore, because that is not the case here at the radio shaft. But only my CAN bus signal. This can be a cable, which can also be two cables, such as CAN high and CAN low. How the CAN bus is built, because the CAN bus for your vehicle in principle the right connector already has it. We are now here on our original connection on it, there is permanent plus and ignition on it and the CAN bus. Then my CAN bus , which is already wired correctly. And now I got all signals again as ISO signal again in analog for our whole car radio. The signal from the light or indicator, most can now install a car radio it does not matter which one, but it is very important if I have buttons on the steering wheel with loud and quiet, plus, minus, before, back and so on. These signals are all beautiful now, inside the CAN bus. This would give me a CAN bus adapter if I would buy a corresponding CAN bus adapter here read out and my car radio again available so that my steering wheel buttons all again function. So you see a CAN bus adapter has many features and is really synonymous necessary so that you have it easy to connect to the car radio. Certainly there are a few hobbyists among you who say, “I’ll just take the ignition of mine Air conditioning because I can still measure it, if I have ignition, then there is actually ignition 12 volts there “, then it would be the ignition actually only carries 12 volts when all my instruments are still running around a vehicle without the radio position.
