The shock reason Graeme McDowell is set to pull out of The Open – Daily News

Graeme McDowell looks set to pull out of The Open, after seeing his clubs go missing before his qualifier  McDowell, 38 flew from Charles De Gaulle Airport to the UK after his exploits at the French Open, where he shared 37th spot  He arrived in the UK at Manchester Airport on Sunday night, ahead of his Open qualifier on Tuesday  But he was left appealing for help from Air France on Monday after his clubs were lost in transit  “I have a 36 (hole) qualifier for the Open and really need my bag in advance. Help,” said the 2010 US Open winner on Twitter on Monday  “Flew into Manchester last night from Charles de Gaulle (Airport) and my golf clubs are untraceable ”  McDowell was scheduled to be involved in the qualifier at St Annes, near Blackpool, on Tuesday, facing off with 71 others to land one of three Open Championship spots  He is then scheduled to head home to Ireland to compete in the Irish Open on Thursday  But with his clubs still to be located, McDowell made his frustrations clear on social media, and admitted that he is set to cut his losses and turn his attention to the event in county Donegal  “Clubs still not on way from Paris. Established that they are in the black hole known as CDG   “@ airfrance and @A irFranceUK have been very quiet on Twitter lately so no communication Looking doubtful I will participate tomorrow @ TheOpen qualifier.   “Sent this guy @ Jmjanaillac an email this morning, who I believe is the @ airfrance CEO but got the cream pie Maybe not a golfer. Frustrating one. Have to start switching my brain to @ DDFIrishOpen @ TheOpen spots there also. Still need clubs!!!’
