OSU hosts administrators from Chinese universities

This program actually started with an invitation for me to speak in China about student affairs. The profession of student affairs. The different departments that are often incorporated in student affairs, residential life and counseling. I made that trip and then there was interest in continuing the dialogue. So we have high level administrators from all over China from five different universities that are visiting here to learn more about the American style of student affairs. The university benefits anytime we can get international exposure and anytime we can share what we know about our campus culture and our practices, which are very different in China, I think we both win. I’ve learned a great deal about the campuses in higher education when I’ve toured and visited in China, and I wanted the opportunity to extend the same kind of hospitality and an invitation to come to our campus to learn from us. We want more of our students to have the opportunity to travel in China and because of the relationships that we’re creating now, I think we will open that door a little bit more for that type of international travel. We have a push that’s supported by the president, the provost and the faculty council to have 100% participation in international experience. This is vital to that because it allows not only us to strengthen our relationships with those institutions in China to be able to send our kids there, it should also provide students from those institutions studying here at OSU. She really enjoyed our campus. It’s such a beautiful campus. She really appreciated our staff members and the whole symposium program. They really made special arrangements for them. They really feel very comfortable and they adjusted to our campus life easily. The first thing she mentioned is our university doesn’t have a physical wall as a gate to separate our campus from the community. So we are open to the community and we serve the community. The second thing is how our professional staff and all the student affair directors gave the lectures. She really enjoyed all the directors and all the professional staff that were so energetic and gave the lectures and really enjoy the campus culture and promote the culture for our students. [music]
